Silicom has developed Elmer based tools for simulations of Kyropoulos sapphire crystal growth, and successfully verified the results to a well-known commercial crystal growth software.

Elmer tools were created to simulate heat transfer, heater power adjustment, crystal-melt interface, and Marangoni and Grashof convections in Kyropoulos sapphire crystal growth. Elmer showed consistent results compared to a well-known commercial crystal growth software. The differencies were -0.5% in temperature distribution (maximum temperature), -1.0% in adjusted heater power and position of crystal-melt interface, and -5.0% in velocity field (maximum velocity).
